|
The purpose of the class is to manage and administer the daily operations for the assigned area of responsibility. The class is responsible for the supervision of assigned staff and the management and operations of the assigned programs and areas of responsibility. The class works within broad policy and organizational guidelines, independently plans and implements projects; reports progress of major activities through periodic conferences and meetings. | The Department of Public Works is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Operations Manager in the Transportation Engineering Division. Individual will report directly to the City Transportation Engineer. Primary responsibilities include: - Overseeing the review and implementation of day-to-day parking and street regulations involving signals, signs, and pavement markings;
- Overseeing the operation of the Transportation Engineering Division Shops (TEDS) that involve some 30 diverse positions with responsibility for maintaining City signs, pavement markings, and over 480 traffic signals.
Other specific responsibilities include: - Overseeing the expenditure of funds associated with TEDS operating budget and capital improvement projects;
- Overseeing operating budgets and requisitions involving signals, signs, and pavement markings;
- Write draft press releases related to work zone practices, detours and parking, prohibitions involving special projects or special events;
- Assist in planning for special events and the establishment of detour, turn prohibitions, parking prohibitions and maintenance of traffic. Coordinate these activities with other municipal officials and outside agencies;
- Review and offer comments on transit routes, transit stops and transit amenities;
- Assist with citizens requests for transportation engineering services in matters related to signalization, parking regulations, sight distances, speeding, safety issues and other matters;
- Process and approve oversize hauling permits and permits to work in streets and alleys;
- Review intersection and corridor capital improvement projects in areas related to: geometrics, traffic control devices, lighting and the maintenance of traffic plans.

Qualifications, Special Certifications and Licenses:
|
| Requires a Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, or related degree, and over five years of traffic engineering experience with a thorough knowledge of the MUTCD. |
