| The purpose of the class is to execute general duty police work in the protection of life and property through the enforcement of laws and ordinances. The class is responsible for patrolling the City, responding to citizen calls, conducting preliminary investigation activities, and maintaining police records. The class works according to set procedures under general supervision. |

Example of Duties:
|
| The tasks listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional tasks related to the type of work of the class as necessary. Patrols assigned City jurisdiction for traffic and other violations utilizing a variety of means of transportation including patrol car, motorcycle, bicycle, and horse; makes traffic stops and intervenes in other criminal activity. Conducts general field services, including monitoring police radio and responding to citizen calls and complaints, obtaining and issuing warrants, marking and packaging evidence, processing crime scenes, investigating potential arson cases, providing surveillance, interviewing suspects and witnesses, and following-up with victims. Fingerprints and photographs suspects; conducts computer-generated searches to gather information on suspects. Prepares for and participates in prosecution of cases in court. Interacts with City and community agencies and groups; responds to citizen calls, complaints, requests for information, etc. Maintains case files and data and prepares regular reports. |

Qualifications, Special Certifications and Licenses:

Must have met criteria for previous Career Development level. Requires one year of experience. Valid driver's license.
