You must have a current Minnesota RN license and Nurse Practitioner Certificate in the area of specialization from a recognized Nurse Practitioner program before you can apply. If you do not list them on your application, it will not be approved. To obtain patient/client histories; to perform routine physical exams; to perform diagnostic assessments and create individual treatment plans; to initiate requests for diagnostic procedures; to prescribe, administer and dispense medications according to St. Paul/Ramsey County Department of Public Health program guidelines; to be the primary provider, by working autonomously as well as in collaboration with other medical staff, clinicians and physicians to provide health care across the life span with an emphasis on preventive health care; and to perform related duties as assigned. |

Examples of Work Performed:
|
• Provides primary care of patients across the life span by: obtaining a complete health history and psychosocial data; performing physical examinations; ordering and evaluating appropriate diagnostic tests; diagnosing common health problems; prescribing treatments and preventative medicines. • Prescribes medications as regulated by individual state nurse practice acts and educates the client about the drug regiments, interactions and side effects. • Performs procedures such as cryotherapy and skin biopsy. • Incorporates nonpharmacologic therapies into practice. • Orders, performs and interprets screening and diagnostic procedures and tests. • Assesses for evidence of domestic violence or sexual abuse. • Develops and implements a plan of care by setting goals and plans mutually acceptable to the patient and evaluates the process and outcomes so necessary modifications can be made. • Initiates and evaluates the plan of care, documents patient progression and refers patients to other needed service providers. • Assists clients to identify and use community and social resources through referral. • Identifies wellness and risk factors, provides health counseling and emotional support, teaches positive self-care activities including problem solving and selection of treatment alternatives. • Ensures staff and program compliance with regulatory standards by keeping abreast of pertinent statutory and policy changes. • Evaluates teaching strategies by examining the outcomes of mutually determined goals. • Provides follow up and health maintenance care including appropriate adjustments of medications and further diagnostic testing and evaluation. • Provides education and counseling that is research-based and client-centered. • Recognizes emergency situations and initiates emergency care. |

Minimum Qualifications:
|
Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing from a university or college accredited by the National League for Nursing, licensed as a registered Nurse in the State of Minnesota, must have a Nurse Practitioner Certificate in the area of specialization from a recognized Nurse Practitioner program. Approved or eligible for approval by the Minnesota Board of Nursing for prescription writing privileges. Experience: None Other: A valid drivers' license. Desirable: Two years experience as a Nurse Practitioner. |

Exam/Screening Process Information:

Examination: NO EXAMINATION WILL BE GIVEN FOR NURSE PRACTITIONER. The names of all applicants who meet the minimum qualifications stated above and who file a properly completed application and supplemental application will be placed on the eligible list for employment as a Ramsey County Nurse Practitioner. Your name will remain on the list for 12 months or until hired, whichever occurs first. This list is updated once a month. A notice will be sent to applicants at the time of posting of the eligible list. Applicants who are eligible for veteran's preference should submit or update their veteran's claim form as soon as possible. Criminal Background Checks: All employment offers are conditioned upon the applicant passing a criminal background check. Convictions are not an automatic bar to employment. Each case is considered on its individual merits and the type of work sought. However, making false statements or withholding information will cause you to be barred from employment, or removed from employment.
