The Position:
|
The Port of Long Beach is conducting recruitment of a Transportation Planner in the Transportation Planning Division, on a provisional basis.
Under the direction of the Director of Transportation Planning in the conduct of planning activities related to the Port's transportation systems the Transportation Planner' duties include:
Assisting the senior staff with file work, technical analysis and conducting independent technical research;
Preparing technical reports;
Performing QA/QC review of analysis performed by consultants;
Conducting transportation analyses for inclusion in environmental review documents and planning studies;
Assisting with reviews of consultant contract task orders and general contract management;
Assisting with building a Synchro Traffic Model for the Port;
Assisting senior staff with the on-going RTIP/FTIP project updates
Evaluating and developing strategies on funding issues;
Performing other related duties as required. |

Minimum Qualifications:
|
A Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or Urban Planning with an emphasis in transportation planning/engineering or a closely related field.
A minimum of two years of full-time professional experience in a closely related field.
A Masters Degree in transportation engineering/planning may be substituted for one year of experience.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge and experience with traffic, transportation engineering, planning principles and methodologies (including computer software applications);
Knowledge of transportation policies;
Experience with local MPO's and state government planning agencies;
Experience in transportation modeling and traffic impact analysis, including familiarity with the following traffic modeling software:
*Traffic operations software - HCS, Traffix, and Synchro
*Simulation modeling - CORSIM, SimTraffic, VISSIM
*Travel demand modeling - TRANPLAN, TransCAD, EMME/2
*Transportation related GIS applications |

In addition to the minimum qualifications the candidate must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills, a valid California driver's license and a good driving record.
"All provisional appointments shall be temporary and shall be valid only until a priority or eligible list becomes available for certification for the classification and is forwarded to the user department. However, no provisional appointment shall be valid beyond a 150 day period unless approved by the Commission."
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS:
The salary range for this position is $6,139 to $7,462 monthly. Salary will commensurate with experience.
In addition, the Port of Long Beach offers a generous benefit package.
