|
This position will plan, oversee and direct the work of the Building Division to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local building, housing and zoning codes and ordinances and will report to the Director of Community and Development. Recruitment is continuous; first review of applications will be July 9, 2009. |

Essential Duties:
|
The ideal candidate will have the ability to perform the following essential functions: · Direct, select and train Building Division employees. · Assist developers, architects, contractors, and construction personnel with construction and design problems. · Evaluate and make recommendations pertaining to the application of State model codes and code amendments affecting the Building Division. · Review and coordinate major building plan submissions directed through staff or consultants. · Analyze, prepare and consider adequacy of data used in setting development fees on a bi-annual basis. · Monitor and keep informed of current trends in the building inspection and code enforcement field, evaluate their impact on departmental operations and recommend policy and procedural improvements. · Create, review, and present major reports and presentations to the City Council and Planning Commission. · Represent the City in the community and at professional meetings. Perform related duties as assigned. |

Qualifications:
|
| · A Bachelor’s Degree with major coursework in architecture, construction technology, engineering, public administration or a related field from an accredited college or university; Master’s Degree is desired. · A minimum of eight (8) years of increasingly responsible administrative experience in municipal government; four (4) years of supervisory experience; two (2) years of budget/policy experience; and seven (7) years of public contact experience. Leadership experience is desired. · Knowledge of model building and construction codes and zoning standards. · Knowledge of general inspection and enforcement practices. · An ability to communicate clearly and concisely orally and in writing. · Knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel. |

Licenses and Certifications:
|
- Equivalent certification as a Combination Building Inspector, Plans Examiner or other special training in the Building, Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing trades through ICC.
- Certification as a Building Official through ICC.
- A valid Class C California Driver’s License throughout the course of employment.
