THE OPPORTUNITY
OC Engineering is seeking Civil Engineers to perform a variety of field and office professional civil engineering work. This recruitment is being held to establish an Agency/Department Eligible list to fill County of Orange vacancies in OC Public Works.

OC PUBLIC WORKS IS LOOKING FOR ENGINEERS WHO CAN
  • Perform precise engineering related computations
  • Under the direct supervision of a Senior Civil Engineer prepare technical engineering reports and studies; review grading, building, flood control, road/highway, and bridge infrastructure plans and specifications; design and prepare plans, specifications, and engineering estimates for public works infrastructure including: roads, highways, highway drainage/storm drains, bridge structures, flood control channels, dams, and retarding basins
  • Effectively manage project assignments
  • Prepare concise and accurate notes, records and technical reports and correspondence
  • Perform Plan Check of single, multi story, and accessory structures; grading plans and street improvement plans including infrastructure facilities

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Possession of a valid Certificate of Registration as a Civil Engineer issued by the California State Board of Registration for Civil and Professional Engineers. Candidate must possess two years of civil engineering experience (Receipt of a Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering may be substituted for one year of the required experience.)

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS

Familiarity and experience with:

  • Familiarity with Orange County Flood Control District Design Manual and Hydrology Manual
  • Familiarity with Orange County Highway Design Manual & bridge design requirements
  • Familiarity with Orange County Standard Plans for public works
  • Related background in drainage and regulatory permits
  • Experience in flood control and road related planning, design, and construction
  • Experience in the use of MicroStation or AutoCAD drafting programs
  • Experience in Building and Grading Plan Check
  • Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, Project, and HEC-RAS, WSPG, InRoads and other Civil Engineering software
  • Familiarity with the County of Orange Grading manual, Excavation Code, and California Building Code
  • Experience in construction management, contract administration and public works construction inspection


REQUIREMENTS FOR THE POSITION

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE

The Ideal Candidate is a motivated, self starting individual with two or more years of civil engineering experience and graduation from an ABET accredited college with major coursework in Civil Engineering who is willing to take on new and challenging Civil Engineering assignments and is able to work independently or as part of a larger team with County or with private sector staff and engineers. The ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate competencies in the following areas:

TECHNICAL ENVIRONMENT - Proven Knowledge of:
  • Civil Engineering Principles
  • CAD Drafting Programs (MicroStation or AutoCAD)
  • Design plan format, organization and content
  • Public works infrastructure planning, design, construction or maintenance activities
  • Project Management principles
  • Plan Check of land development improvement plans.
  • Construction management, contract administration and inspection of complex public works structures.

ACTIVE COMMUNICATION - Proven Knowledge of:
  • Effectively communicate, orally and in writing, with team members, engineering staff, management, field staff, surveyors, contractors, planners, the general public, and other governmental agencies
  • Read, prepare and interpret road, drainage, grading, structural, traffic engineering, subdivision and flood control plans, drawings and sketches
  • Prepare and generate engineering reports, written correspondence and investigations to a technical and non-technical audience.
  • Actively manage project assignments

LEADERSHIP SKILLS - Ability To:
  • Lead, guide, and direct others
  • Accept challenges, exercise good judgment and take appropriate risks

LEARNING AGILITY - Proven Ability To:
  • Rapidly assimilate and use new information

  • Perform precise engineering related computations using algebraic, geometric and trigonometric formulas
