DESCRIPTION:

Maritime Center, Nauticus (Director of Exhibits/Exhibits Manager)

Work Hours: 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday; may include evening, weekend and holiday hours.

This position is responsible for the general, day-to-day operation of the Exhibition Programs Department, supervision of its personnel (museum artists, designers, and fabricators) as well as contracted exhibit designers and fabricators, overall art direction and management of all exhibit activities (permanent exhibits, special exhibits, and exhibit maintenance programs) within identified time and budgetary parameters. A clear understanding of the desired "visitor experience" as it related to Nauticus' mission and exhibit master plan is essential.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Exhibit management.
• Plans and coordinates new exhibit programs; coordinates the production of exhibit concept sketches, rendering, floor plans and final construction documents; manages external/contracted exhibit designers and fabricators.
• Prepares and monitors exhibit-related contracts.
• Stays current on new and emerging exhibit trends, techniques and materials and makes recommendations and/or decisions appropriate to individual exhibit components.
• Assigns section personnel to specific exhibit responsibilities; reviews and coordinates all aspects of exhibit planning, design and production; monitors the care, maintenance and upgrading of all Nauticus exhibits.
• Prepares the section’s annual budget and operating plan, daily work schedules, and assignments for section personnel; conducts annual performance reviews; coordinates departmental functions with other museum sections; meets with senior staff and Nauticus administrators regarding the goals and objectives of the Exhibition Programs Section.
• Presents public programs and lectures to professional and community groups; meets with visiting government officials, museum professionals and media representatives regarding Nauticus’ exhibition program.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

Requires equivalent to a bachelor's degree in a related field, a master's degree is preferred, and five years of museum experience as a senior exhibit designer.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

Valid driver's license.
