 The Position:
BENEFITS

7 weeks off per year:
5 weeks combined vacation and management leave per year, plus two personal holidays and 12 general holidays per year.

Full and part-time positions for Adult Staff Psychiatrists.

CEU training time and tuition reimbursement with approval

2.5% PERS Retirement (years of service x 2.5 % highest salary over three years = annual pension).

Salary Step negotiable depending upon experience.

Cell phone allowance.

Matching vacation credit for years of government or public service.

Option of cashing out Management Leave.

 Example of Duties:
The Staff Psychiatrist position is a management position with responsibility to provide psychiatric services for the Department of Health and Human Services. Psychiatrists assess referred clients to determine need for psychiatric services, complete appropriate treatment plans for medication services based on individual client needs, and monitor and document progress in treatment. Non-medical clinical staff provide complementary treatment and case coordination to ensure optimal treatment outcomes.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION


To qualify for this classification, an individual must possess any combination of experience and education that would likely produce the required knowledge and abilities. A desirable combination is:

Experience:
Experience in community mental health services systems is highly desirable.

Education:
Equivalent to college sufficient to obtain the possession of the California licensure as described below.

License or Certificate:
Possession of a valid license to practice medicine in the State of California, a current Drug Enforcement Association (DEA) license, and certification of completion of a residency training program in Psychiatry in which such certification is in good standing and approved by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.

Possession of a valid California Driver's License.

KNOWLEDGE OF:

Principles and practices of general and preventative psychiatry.

Principles and practices of modern medicine.

Principles and practices used in diagnosis and treatment of psychiatric disorders.

Current developments in the field of psychiatry.

Procedures involving legal testimony involving psychiatric clients.
Community mental health systems and practices.

Psychiatric medications and their interaction with other prescription drugs.

Federal and state laws related to confidentiality of medical records, patient access to medical records and patient’s rights.

ABILITY TO:

Perform psychiatric diagnosis, treatment interpretations and recommendations.

Provide effective treatment for psychiatric patients; formulate, implement and evaluate treatment plans.

Diagnose, treat and dispense medication.

Practice psychiatry in a community mental health delivery system.

Maintain confidentiality of information.

Work independently; make decisions and independent judgments.

Maintain therapeutic boundaries.

Keep the best interests of the agency’s clients and the public as the primary objective in the provision of psychiatric services.

Analyze clinical problems and take effective course of action.

Prepare and maintain clear, concise and comprehensive records, reports and correspondence.

Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.

Establish effective therapeutic relationships with clients with treatment resistant disorders and with substance disorders.

Establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, other departments, agencies and the general public.
