The Position:

This is a non-benefited Extra Help position in the Napa County Department of Corrections. This recruitment is a continuous recruitment and will be closed when a viable candidate pool has been identified. The Cook I prepares, cooks food and assists in the serving of meals within the Napa County Correctional facility. |

Example of Duties:
|
Prepares, cooks, and serves a variety of food for regular and special diets; receives instructions on the amount of food to be prepared; carves meat; prepares, cooks, and serves meats, vegetables, salads, soups, desserts and other foods and beverages; bakes bread, cakes and pastries; assists in supervising food preparation and ensures that meals are served on time; dishes-up food, performs and helps supervise cleaning of kitchen and kitchen equipment; prepares oral and written reports, and posts records. TYPICAL QUALIFICATIONS Knowledge of: Principles, procedures and equipment used in the storage, care, preparation, cooking and dispensing of food in large quantities. Kitchen sanitation and safety measures used in the operation, cleaning and care of utensils, equipment and work areas. Methods of adjusting standard recipes by reducing or increasing in proportion to needs. Skill to: Read, understand and follow recipes. Prepare and serve food in large quantities. Judge the quantities of food required and prepare it with a minimum of waste. Ability to: Work cooperatively with others. Understand and follow oral and written instructions. Experience and Education To qualify for this classification, an individual must possess any combination of experience and education that would likely produce the required knowledge, skills and abilities. A desirable combination is: Experience: One year of experience in preparation, cooking, and serving of meals in large quantities. Education: Completion of formal or informal education sufficient to assure the ability to read and write on the level required for successful job performance.
