|
| Perform professional work over the inspection, maintenance, cutting, trimming, spraying, and removal of trees and apply herbicides and plant control vegetation on County road shoulders and forest land. |

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (Essential functions, as defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following duties and responsibilities, knowledge, skills and other characteristics. Depending upon assignment, the incumbent may perform a combination of some or all of the following duties, which are a representative sample of the level of work appropriate to this classification.)
Conducts inspections and surveys to evaluate the health and safety of trees and shrubs.
Answers arboreal questions; issues, reviews, assist in construction plans, and makes decisions about tree health, safety, and survival.
Conducts inspections of weed reports in order to eradicate noxious weeds and insure compliance with State regulations.
Mixes chemical compounds in appropriate concentration for spray area and types of vegetation; selects chemicals and spray equipment; ensures chemicals are stored, mixed, moved and disposed in a safe manner.
Evaluates the performance and efficiency of chemicals, including selective and growth retarding compounds; inspects previously sprayed areas; identifies problems in eradicating or controlling specific plants.
Operates, maintains and inspects light trucks and spray equipment; tests and calibrates equipment; ensures proper vehicle service and cleaning according to maintenance schedules; performs minor repairs in the field.
Identifies and evaluates areas for beneficial plant development; plants wildflowers, selected grasses and low growing plant species; monitors effectiveness in eliminating undesirable plants.
Interface with other counties, cities, the state and federal agencies to inform and assist them when infestations are found in their jurisdictions.
Periodically surveys waterways to detect early infestations of invasive aquatic weeds.
Respond to citizen's complaints regarding noxious weeds
Educate public on control measures.
Prepare computerized reports and maintain records as required.
Perform related duties as assigned. |

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities Required:
|
Interpret and apply complex Federal, State and local laws, codes and regulations..
Principles and practices of forestry and the care and management of urban and community trees.
Principals of weed eradication and control.
Care and treatment of diseased or insect-infested trees and disease development patterns sufficient to be able to determine whether a problem exists and to determine the appropriate remedy.
Calibrate and maintain herbicides application equipment.
Measure, mix, and load herbicides according to label specifications and established standards.
Routine lifting, walking and carrying 50 lbs.
Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing. |

Minimum Qualifications Required for Entry:
|
Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
Experience: Three years of arborist or responsible arborist-related work involving tree care, chemical application and including 1 year of weed eradication and control, AND
Training: Associate degree from an accredited college with major course work in arboriculture, forestry or related field.
License or Certificate: Possession of a valid Arborist certificate and valid driver's license at time of appointment. Possession within 30 days of appointment, a valid Oregon Department of Agriculture Public Herbicide Applicator license. |
