|
| To perform manual work in the area of humane care of animals that are impounded at Multnomah County Animal Care Facility; assist with feeding animals, cleaning cages, animal runs and the maintenance of the building and grounds. |

Examples of Duties:

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (Essential functions, as defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following duties and responsibilities, knowledge, skills and other characteristics. Depending upon assignment, the incumbent may perform a combination of some or all of the following duties, which are a representative sample of the level of work appropriate to this classification.)
Clean and disinfect kennels and cat cages.
Perform janitorial duties including vacuuming, dusting, mopping, garbage removal and laundry.
Daily maintenance of kennels, cattery, euthanasia room and public areas.
General maintenance of grounds and facilities.
Assist Animal Care and Animal Health Technicians as assigned by Shelter Operations Supervisor.
Maintain storerooms, including stocking of all ordered and donated materials.
Perform related duties in shelter operations as assigned. |

Supervision Received and Exercised:
|
| Receives immediate supervision from Shelter Operations supervisor and Animal Care Technician as assigned. |

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities Required:
|
Janitorial equipment and tools.
Safe working procedures.
Ability and willingness to learn how to humanely care for animals and humanely perform euthanasia procedures.
Deal tactfully with the public.
To perform physical maneuvers necessary in controlling animals and to lift and carry at least 60 pounds. |

Minimum Qualifications Required for Entry:
|
Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
Experience: One year of work experience with animals in animal control, welfare, or animal-related fields. Six months of work experience in dealing with the public in a service-oriented job is desirable, AND
Training: Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade.
License or Certificate: Possession of, or the ability to obtain, an appropriate and valid driver's license. Ability to obtain certification as an Euthanasia Technician as part of training for higher level Animal Care positions. |
