This is an IBEW recognized position.
DEPARTMENT: Maintenance & Operations
HOURS OF WORK: Current schedule is Monday through Friday; 2:30 p.m. -11:00 p.m.; Scheduling could change if required.

Example of Duties:
|
| Repair of heavy diesel equipment such as graders, loaders, dump trucks, street sweepers, snow blowers and other Street Maintenance equipment. |

Minimum Qualifications / Substitutions / Special Qualifications:
|
Graduation from high school or equivalent with a minimum of five (5) years experience in the form of either: completion of an approved journeyman mechanic apprenticeship/training program (maximum two years experience credit), and a minimum of three (3) years of automotive, construction/heavy equipment, truck, or transit bus repair and maintenance experience as appropriate; or, demonstrate attainment of compatible journeyman level mechanic skills by working at least five (5) years in a related vehicle maintenance field appropriate to this classification. Must possess a valid driver's license
NOTICE
If selected for hire, appointment in this position will be conditional based upon the submission of a current copy of the applicant’s Alaska Driver’s License and a current (dated within 30 days from date requested) copy of his/her Department of Motor Vehicle driving record, including a driving record from previous states if the Alaska Driver’s License was first issued within one year prior to application, documenting an acceptable driving history. The processing fee(s) are the responsibility of the selected applicant.
If selected for hire, the appointment in this position will be conditional based upon a satisfactory Municipal Employment Office conducted Background Check. A Background Check encompasses criminal history, verifying education, and verifying dates of employment.
Incumbents are required to furnish hand tools common to the trade.
By time of completion of 6 month probationary period must possess a valid State of Alaska Commercial Driver's License, Class B. Failure to obtain this license will result in termination. |

Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
|
Prefer experience and knowledge of electrical systems, hydraulic systems, diesel fuel systems, diesel engines, and brake systems all found on heavy equipment such as Volvo, Caterpillar, Case, Elgin, Vactor, and Trackless.
