The Sports, Health, and Wellness Division of the Prince George’s County Department of Parks and Recreation, of the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission, is currently seeking an Aquatics Specialist. This position is located at the Greenbelt, MD,  office and frequently attends off-site meetings and visits assigned facilities throughout Prince George’s County.

Our ideal candidate will provide advance professional recreation facility supervision and management for seasonal aquatic facilities and ice rinks. The selected candidate will also assist in the development of programs, training, and marketing initiatives for the Department of Parks & Recreation.

 Examples of Important Duties:
The Aquatics Specialist monitors facility operations, reviews reports and conducts frequent inspections to monitor day-to-day operations and programs of facilities. Advises Facility Managers on ways to solve technical problems, comply with administrative procedures, and improve management of facilities. Conducts special investigations of accidents, fires, and crimes. Coordinates activities with other Commission units and outside government agencies. Keeps supervisors informed about important matters pertaining to assigned facilities and programs. Makes recommendations for new or revised management processes, policies, training programs, or new equipment.

Assists in preparing annual budget requests and supporting documentation. Monitors daily revenues and expenditures for assigned facilities and programs. Estimates revenues and expenditures for remainder of fiscal year. Recommends reallocation of funds or other actions to stay within budget. Evaluates cost effectiveness and revenue production of programs, and coordinates financial matters with the Finance Department.

Recruits, selects, trains, and assists in evaluating aquatics staff. Counsels staff on ways to improve performance. Initiates disciplinary action where necessary.

Reviews technical literature, conducts surveys, meets with vendors, exchanges information with other government agencies, and attends professional conferences and development opportunities to identify new programs, methods, and equipment which might be useful for the Department.

 Minimum Qualifications:
1. Bachelor's degree or four years experience in business administration, physical education, recreation, or related subjects; and


2. Five years progressively responsible professional experience, with at least one year as supervisor of a program or facility similar to the Enterprise facilities of the Commission; or

3. An equivalent combination of education and experience.

 Supplemental Information:
Basic-Level Aquatic Certifications(i.e. Lifeguard Training, Water Safety Instructor, Pool Operators) preferred; Instructor/Advanced Level Certifications a plus.

Experience with American Red Cross training programs highly desired.

Works in an office and frequently travels to assigned facilities.

Works long hours, evenings, weekends, and holidays. On-call 24 hours.
 
A valid driver’s license desired.
