The Prince George's County Department of Planning, Countywide Planning Division is seeking a Transportation Planner to perform advanced professional planning work requiring specialization in trails planning and development review using GIS software. Prince George's County boasts a diverse population of nearly 850,000 residents increasingly interested in the land development process, the services we provide, and opportunities for citizen involvement. The Department values community engagement and is committed to enhancing knowledge and participation of the public in every element of work. The selected individual will play a vital part in maintaining the standards of excellence established by the Department. This individual will be responsible for planning on-site and small area traffic impact analysis (including report writing and oral testimony) and travel demand modeling. |

Examples of Important Duties:
|
Significant duties for the Transportation Planner include: 1. Conducts research to analyze planning problems, identify trends, answer questions, etc. for planning studies, projects, or programs. 2. Conducts site inspections and incorporates field observations into recommendations. Applies knowledge of planning standards, codes, and plans to develop alternatives to resolve planning problems identified. 3. Conducts planning studies in support of the planning process to research and help develop solutions to problems, assess adequacy of plans, public facilities, evaluation of land use for public facilities, acquisition, parks, etc. 4. Writes and develops planning reports, correspondence, plans, and other materials. Explains technical planning issues and concepts to support research conclusions and recommendations. 5. Serves on committees, task forces, special intra-department teams for the purpose of contributing technical expertise to achieve goals and objectives of work effort. |

Minimum Qualifications:
|
- Master’s degree in planning, architecture, parks, engineering, environmental science, or equivalent disciplines related to job function and one year of progressively responsible professional level planning experience; or
- An equivalent combination of education and experience.

Supplemental Information:
|
Working knowledge of critical lane analysis, HCS, TransCAD and Synchor software is desired. Experience with Prince George's County Zoning and Subdivision review process is highly desirable. |
