Looking for In-House Legal "Star". A national leader in public parks, recreation, and the regulation of real estate development is searching for a seasoned lawyer with real world experience to lead its in-house Litigation and Employment Law Team. The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission is a first-in-class regional agency with approximately 2500 full-time employees who serve the citizens of Maryland in Prince George's and Montgomery counties. As an Associate General Counsel, you would join and lead the team of three lawyers responsible for finding sophisticated legal solutions for a variety of complicated problems in civil law and litigation. |
Examples of Important Duties:
Your portfolio of exciting and important work will sometimes include: providing expert legal advice for corporate labor, employment and benefits professionals; managing in-house lawyers and outside counsel in litigation involving complex civil law claims; supporting agency risk management functions and internal investigations; supervising the agency's regulatory enforcement actions that warrant civil fines or penalties; joining the agency's senior leadership team for new policy development; and working closely with the General Counsel to enhance basic legal competencies throughout the organization. You should expect daily interaction with clients at the highest corporate levels, all of whom share a passion for building a healthy and sustainable quality of life for our region. You will provide leadership for a complement of exceptionally talented in-house attorneys, and your daily work will become a critical component in our law department's ongoing ability to succeed. Our idea candidate is an accomplished practitioner in employment law/labor relations and has a solid track record of handling complex civil trial work in state and federal courts of general jurisdiction. The Office of General Counsel emphasizes training and preventive collaboration to support client decision making and legal acumen; so a comfortable interpersonal work style and excellent communication skills are a must. The successful candidate will also demonstrate a knack for translating technical legal concepts into oral and written expressions that connect with the intended audience. A confident stature in public settings is also important because the work frequently requires interaction with state and federal courts, the Montgomery and Prince George's County Planning Boards, agency department heads, and the senior legal officers of other state and local jurisdictions
