Minnesota State University, Mankato seeks a leader for the position of Dean of the College of Arts and Humanities. The Dean serves as the chief administrator and executive officer for the college, reporting directly to the Provost/Vice President for Academic Affairs. The Dean provides vision and leadership for the college in the following ways: directs academic and administrative planning and budgeting; recruits, develops and evaluates faculty; provides oversight for extensive public programming; mentors department chairpersons and faculty; provides oversight for procurement and maintenance of college equipment and facilities; administers collective bargaining agreements; implements college and university policies; maintains positive student relations; oversees academic program reviews and maintains external accreditations; fundraises and procures grants; maintains and develops external connections, collaborations and partnerships; promotes, develops and encourages diversity initiatives.

 Minimum Qualifications:
  • Terminal degree in a discipline within the college.
  • A minimum of five years of administrative experience in higher education.

 Other Considerations:
  • Ability to communicate effectively in writing and speaking.
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity.
  • Active involvement in professional organizations.
  • Knowledge of the methods and issues of assessment.
  • Record of providing support for faculty and student achievement.
  • Understanding of the importance of new pedagogies, especially the use of technology in education.
  • Commitment to the liberal arts and student learning.
  • Knowledge of or experience with collective bargaining in higher education.
  • Record of excellent teaching and scholarly activity, commensurate with the rank of professor within a discipline represented in the college.
  • Record of securing external funding and building public and/or private partnerships.
  • Experience in overseeing public programming.

 Additional Information:
The College of Arts and Humanities consists of eight departments: Art; Communication Studies; English; Mass Communications; Modern Language; Music; Philosophy; and Theatre and Dance. The college has 120 full-time faculty and staff and 120 adjunct faculty and TAs. Support staff includes a Student Relations Coordinator and two administrative assistants. The college is home to 37 undergraduate and 14 graduate programs. Minnesota State Mankato is a comprehensive university of 14,000 students; the city of Mankato is located at the bend of the Minnesota River, 85 miles southwest of Minneapolis and St. Paul.
