| Are you between the ages of 17 and a half and 20 years old and interested in preparing for a law enforcement career? Police Cadets provide entry level support services in the Police Department as a preparatory step towards future employment as a sworn police officer. Work includes assisting members of the public where appropriate and performing support work for the various divisions within the department, usually on a rotational basis. Requires a high school degree or GED, or be scheduled to graduate in the spring of 2010. Must possess a valid driver's license and a driving record that meets City standards. Applicants with one or more felony convictions of any kind will not be considered. |

Essential Duties:
|
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Other duties to provide direct or indirect service to the citizens may be assigned. • Learns to direct traffic; • Learns to enforce local and state laws and issue summonses for parking violations as directed; • Learns to interview witnesses and victims regarding crime reported and complete detailed incident reports; • Learns to maintain various types of records and files; • Learns skills necessary for data entry and retrieval from desktop computer; • Learns how to operate CAD system (Lyncom) • May be called upon to assist at special events such as crowd control at parades and traffic direction as needed; • May ride with officers to observe police operations; • Must be able to interact with the public in a professional manner; ADDITIONAL DUTIES • Other duties to provide direct or indirect service to the citizens may be assigned. • When unusual situations occur and/or the City Manager declares a State of Emergency, all City employees may be required to accept special assignments and perform as needed to ensure appropriate service delivery. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES This job has no supervisory responsibilities. |
