Northwestern State University and the Department of New Media, Journalism and Communication Arts invites applications for the Coordinator of Student Media. We seek and energetic and experienced student affairs, student media, or communications professional to guide and manage the university's multi-unit student media program.

Candidates must have at least a Bachelor's degree, with preference for degrees in journalism, communication, graphic design, or related field. They must have a minimum of three years' experience in a professional or college media organization.

Special preference will go to those with:
  • Applicable Master's degree or higher
  • Experience in overseeing media production, to include digital
  • Knowledge of student media law and media technology
  • Budgeting and managerial experience
  • Mentoring, advising and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Teaching experience
Salary is dependent upon qualifications and experience and ranges from $45,000 to $50,000. If qualified to teach, opportunity for additional compensation.


The Coordinator of Student Media will advise the student newspaper, radio station, and yearbook. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, budgets, contracts, legal, personnel, recruiting, marketing, scholarships, event planning, professional and personal development for student staff, curriculum advising, and collaboration with departmental and university communication faculty and staff. The coordinator will help develop and implement a strategic plan to maintain excellence in student media products. The Coordinator will report to the Department Head of New Media, Journalism, and Communication Arts.
