Plans, organizes, supervises and monitors the administration of any recreational activity; ensures the accurate accountability of any recreational activity fees.

 Job Description:
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of recreational activities.
  • Ability to plan, organize and supervise recreational activities.
  • Ability to use computer hardware, various software programs and technologies, including word processing and spreadsheet programs.
  • Ability to take and follow directions from supervisor.
  • Ability to give directions to and gain compliance from assigned staff.
  • Ability to perform strenuous and routine work.
  • Ability to maintain valid Texas Driver License and a good driving record.
  • Ability to maintain harmonious and effective working relationships with other employees and respond to general public complaints.
  • Ability to project a positive and professional image of the City of Laredo.
  • Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing in the English language and orally in the Spanish language.
  • Ability to comply with all City of Laredo’s policies and procedures.
  • Ability to maintain good health and physical condition sufficient to permit the full performance of the duties of the position.
  • Ability to perform other duties as assigned.


  • PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:
    Work is performed inside an office, stockroom, or warehouse, and outside exposed to a variety of weather conditions and to outdoor elements, such as: unknown & dangerous conditions/unusual environmental stress, contagious infectious disease/irritating chemicals, excessive humidity, heat, cold/ inclement weather, dry atmosphere, constant noise, vibration (pneumatic), dust, grease, oils, solvents, dirt, slippery/uneven walking surfaces, and excessive/intermittent/constant noise. Capable of working with protective devices, closely with others, alone, and traveling in vehicle. Work involves long or irregular work hours, working around moving objects or vehicles, and around machines with moving parts, working with hands in water, and working on ladders or scaffolding. Work requires straight pulling, simple & dual grasping, pulling hand over hand, repeated bending, standing, sitting, crouching, twisting, crawling, kneeling, pushing, stooping, reaching above shoulders, climbing stairs & ladders, walking, and light to moderate carrying and lifting (15-44 Ibs). Ability operate office equipment, mechanical equipment, motor vehicle, see, write, count, read, identify shade of colors, depth perception, and hearing is needed to perform essential functions.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Plans, supervises, organizes and monitors educational and recreational programming, ensures participants comply with policies and procedures regarding the same.
  • Teaches adults & children; ensures students receive proper instruction and area informed of available programming at recreation centers.
  • Plans, supervises, organizes and monitors the success of programs and activities at recreation centers.
  • Coordinates and supervises the activities and events held at center monitors the day-to-day activities to ensure success of the event and activities.
  • Solicits community support of Education & Recreation programs and activities whether it be volunteers, in-kind donations, or sponsorships.
  • Communicates and coordinates activities with local organizations.
  • Projects a positive and professional image of the department; builds and maintains effective working relationships with the same.
  • Ability to take initiative and work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to effectively and professionally communicate with businesses and organizations when soliciting support of Education and Recreation activities.
  • Assists in maintaining good communication between staff, visitors and other business contacts.
  • Must follow all rules of telephone courtesy in all telephone communications.
  •  Minimum Qualifications:
    High School Diploma or G.E.D.

    -AND-

    Two (2) years experience in any recreational activity/field of expertise or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Some examples would be dance, graphics, working with children.

     Valid Licenses and Certifications:
    Valid Texas Drivers License*

    *If applicant holds an out-of-state license, a State of Texas Driver's License must be obtained prior to employment.



    As part of the minimum requirements for all positions with the City of Laredo, a thorough background check and certified school transcripts will be required from all applicants who are offered employment.


    Effective February 24, 1997, all selected applicants are required to undergo a drug and alcohol test prior to employment.


    Effective January 7, 2008, all persons in safety-sensitive functions/positions, as per City of Laredo Drug and Alcohol Policy definition, shall be subject to random drug and alcohol testing.
