Temporary, Full-time Position w/o benefits


Conducts eligibility interviews for all applicants of the Weatherization Assistance Program (WAP). Receives documentation and maintains associated records.

 Job Description:
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of practices of community assistance organizations and of project planning and development.
  • Knowledge of basic arithmetic.
  • Ability to exercise considerable judgment and initiative.
  • Ability to coordinate the efforts of various agencies and interests for a common goal.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective public relations.
  • Ability to maintain a valid Texas Driver License and a good driving record.
  • Ability to maintain harmonious and effective working relationships with other employees and respond to general public complaints.
  • Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing in the English language and orally in the Spanish language.
  • Required to comply with all City of Laredo's policies and procedures.
  • Ability to maintain good health and physical condition sufficient to permit the full performance of the duties of the position.


  • PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:
    Work is performed inside and outside an office. Work involves working closely with others and/or alone, traveling by car, van, bus, and plane. Work requires standing, sitting, climbing stairs, walking, light carrying under 15 pounds, operate office equipment, and a motor vehicle. Ability to see, write, count, read, identify shade of colors, depth perception, and hearing is needed to perform essential functions.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Answers questions concerning Weatherization Assistance Program in person and on the telephone.
  • Performs preliminary screening of all inquires to verify completion of the application and initial eligibility and verifies content of all applications.
  • Submits eligible applications for funding; follows up on pending applications and notifies applicants of status; secures additional documentation from applicant as needed.
  • Assists in marketing efforts for the Weatherization Assistance Program.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  •  Minimum Qualifications:
    High School Diploma or G.E.D. supplemented by 60 hours of college level courses from an accredited educational institution in bookkeeping, public administration, accounting, or related field.
    -AND-
    At least two (2) years of work experience in bookkeeping, public administration, accounting, social work, or related field.

     Valid Licenses and Certifications:
    Valid Texas Drivers License*
    *If applicant holds an out-of-state license, a State of Texas Driver's License must be obtained prior to employment.



    As part of the minimum requirements for all positions with the City of Laredo, a thorough background check and certified school transcripts will be required from all applicants who are offered employment.


    Effective February 24, 1997, all selected applicants are required to undergo a drug and alcohol test prior to employment.


    Effective January 7, 2008, all persons in safety-sensitive functions/positions, as per City of Laredo Drug and Alcohol Policy definition, shall be subject to random drug and alcohol testing.
