The scenic beachside community of Laguna Beach is seeking talented, enthusiastic individuals to assist in providing superior service within the City’s highly successful Community Oriented Policing Program.
There are three position levels of Reserve Officer. The City is currently hiring at position levels I/II.
Levels are defined as:
Level III – Performs limited functions not usually requiring law enforcement powers.
Level II – Works under the immediate supervision of a peace officer and possesses a basic reserve certificate.
Level I – Works independently and is assigned to specific police functions.
Reserve Officers are paid a monthly stipend of $100 per month. |

Examples of Duties:
|
| Reserve Officers assist regular Police Officers in patrolling assigned areas of the City. Duties will include dispatching, crime prevention, investigation, report writing and enforcing state and local laws. This position requires current employment as a reserve officer in the State of California, or graduation from or current enrollment in a reserve academy. |

Qualified candidates must be citizens of the United States at or prior to appointment and possess the
Following qualifications:
Proof of completion of High School or equivalent.
Current employment as a Reserve Officer in the State of California or graduation from a Reserve Academy within the last two years. Current enrollment in a reserve academy is also qualifying.
A valid California driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
Ability to perform the essential job functions as listed below with or without reasonable accommodation. |

Levels I / II / III:
Must possess the ability to read and understand English language documents, legibly handwrite accurate and grammatically correct reports and communicate effectively orally, in writing and using a police radio.
Also required is the ability to operate a vehicle safely under various conditions, including emergencies, exercise good judgment in dealing with routine and unusual situations, and learn and comprehend factual information, policies, procedures and rules, and use good judgment and discretion in responding to changing conditions in similar and non-similar situations.
Successful candidates will:
Maintain composure and judgment during emergency or tense situations.
Must not be subject to impeachment in court due to character, reputation, history of dishonesty, or violation of law, including drug violations.
Maintain good working relationships with those encountered in the course of duty.
Accept constructive criticism and apply it to performance.
Levels II / III - Additional Knowledge, Skills and Abitlities:
Must be able to lift, carry, drag, pull and push objects of varying weight and size, stand, walk and run for extended periods of time over various distances and conditions, such as pursuing a running suspect through yards and over fences and walls, observe and recognize people, activity, vehicles, street signs and environmental conditions from a reasonable distance during day and night.
Reserve level I/II officers must not pose a direct threat to the health and safety of themselves and others, use only force objectively necessary to control situations and persons, including combative or fleeing suspects and operate a variety of firearms and weapons safely and proficiently.
The appointing authority will further review the job related qualifications of those deemed eligible for hire before making selection decisions. |
