|
PART TIME OR FULL TIME POSITIONS AVAILABLE.
Jail Health Physicians provide direct patient care to jail inmates. Other responsibilities include participation in quality improvement / quality assurance programs to support Jail Health Services care goals; medical oversight, consultation, and management of specialized health care programs for Jail Health Services. |

Examples of Duties:
|
- Diagnose, manage, educate and counsel inmates on a broad scope of personal health care issues; manage care provided to inmates with complex medical problems.
- Perform minor surgical procedures, prescribe medications and make referrals for specialty services when necessary.
- Provide women’s health care services, including gynecologic examination and prenatal care.
- Provide care to inmates in medical emergencies, including necessary support to maintain life and stabilize conditions.
- Document all medical evaluations, diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, treatment outcomes, referrals and consultations.
- Participate in training other staff on clinical and procedural topics and provide technical consultation to mid-level providers and nursing staff.
- Participate in the development, implementation and evaluation of treatment guidelines and service delivery models.
- Work with others within the program to assure compliance with NCCHC standards and subsequent accreditation.
- Participate in internal and external committees to maintain appropriate standards of care.
- Collaborate with health care team to assure smooth clinic flow.

Qualifications:
|
- Graduation from an accredited medical school, valid license to practice in the State of Washington, a current DEA registration and be Board eligible/certified in Family Practice or Emergency Medicine.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a care team and with a diverse and multi-cultural patient panel.
- Willingness to work rotating schedules/shifts in 24/7 locked facility.
- The candidate must possess a valid Washington State driver’s license or have the ability to travel throughout King County in a timely manner.
- Public Health relies on office automation and web enabled tools, therefore, candidates must be proficient in computer use to perform functions associated with on-going work as well as to research information and take training.
Desirable Qualification:
Experience working with mid-level practitioners, resident physicians strongly preferred. |

These positions may be subject to up to ten (10) unpaid furlough days in 2009.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
- An offer of employment will be contingent on passing a pre-employment physical exam.
- The selected candidate must pass a thorough background investigation.
- The person hired into this position will be required to adhere to the policies of the Department of Juvenile and Adult Detention (in addition to those of the Public Health Department) in meeting and maintaining the standards required for continued access to the facility as well as other standards related to conduct.
- Employees are required to protect the privacy and security of protected health information as defined in State and Federal Law
- Employees are required to adhere to OSHA/WISHA guidelines including but not limited to completing their mandatory trainings on time.

- Public Health relies on office automation (Microsoft Office) and web-based enabled tools; therefore candidates must be proficient and comfortable with computer use to perform functions associated with on-going work.
- Staff may be required to play a role as a first responder in the event of a Public Health emergency.
- The work location may be the King County Correctional Facility (downtown Seattle) and/or the Regional Justice Center (Kent, WA).
- The work days and hours may vary with call 1:8. Beeper call only. No OB, but some prenatal care. Must be BC/BE Family Med or Emergency Med, with unrestricted license.
