Public Health is accepting applications for Registered Nurse (RN) correctional health positions. All RN vacancies will be filled from the list resulting from this recruitment. Applicants are referred to positions for 3 months and then must reapply. Summary of Practice: These positions are for the registered nurse who wants to work in a stimulating health care environment. You will be joining an interdisciplinary team that provides health care services for clients in the King County Correctional Facilities, Seattle and/or Kent. Schedules: These positions will work in a 24/7 facility; nurses work 8 hour shifts: days, evenings ($2.50 shift differential) and nights ($4.00 shift differential); $4.00 an hour additional weekend pay; shift assignment and your schedule of days off is determined by vacant schedules and seniority requests. Most schedules have every other weekend off. Non preferential shift assignments or pattern changes may be made in emergency situations or to meet operational needs. - RN Jail Health โ King County Correctional Facility/Downtown Seattle; Term-Limited Temporary Position (projected term is 6 months); 1.0 FTE; Evening Shift. Term-Limited Temporary positions are eligible for leave and health benefits.
- RN Jail Health โ King County Correctional Facility/Downtown Seattle; Term-Limited Temporary Position (projected term is 12 months); 1.0 FTE; Day Shift. Term-Limited Temporary positions are eligible for leave and health benefits.
. We also welcome short-term temporary / per diem applications. Temporary / Per Diem applicants must be available five shifts a month with two shifts scheduled on the weekend. |

Examples of Duties:
|
- Provides nursing assessments and interventions including; medical, dental and psychiatric screening and triage with patients; obtains health history, chief complaint; conducts drug and alcohol withdrawal assessments; patient care planning; evaluation and medical care coordination; carries out prescribed treatments; collects specimens as needed; administers medications and vaccinations; monitors and documents treatment progress and patient response.
- Provide mental health services, as a member of an interdisciplinary team, to patients with emotional, behavioral, cognitive and social impairments.
- Refers to or consults with other health providers in person and on the phone.
- Follows established Public Health medical records policies and procedures and the State and Federal laws that govern the release of health care information.
- Establishes relationships with individuals to promote interactive problem solving and provide patient education.
- Delegates as allowed under the Nurse Practice Act.
- Participates and assists in the training and orientation of new health care employees and students.
- Provides for clinic maintenance of supplies and equipment; maintains a safe environment according to standards of (OSHA/WISHA).
- Provides patient care based upon practice guidelines, community standards of care, and Federal and State laws and regulations.
- Responds to emergencies throughout the facility; injury and illness; performs CPR when needed.
- Participates in RN on-call system.
- Maintains professional competence by pursuing opportunities for continuous learning, attending continuing education offerings, reading professional literature, and engaging in other activities which develop new knowledge and skills.

Qualifications:
|
- Requires current Washington State Registered Nurse license in good standing.
- Requires the completion of training from a National League of Nursing accredited school of nursing, or the equivalent.
- Demonstrated skill providing physical and mental health assessments.
- The selected candidate must pass a security clearance and/or background check to secure access to the correctional facilities.
- The selected candidate must pass a physical examination.
- Employees are required to protect the privacy and security of protected health information as defined in State and Federal Law
- Employees are required to adhere to OSHA/WISHA guidelines including but not limited to completing their mandatory trainings on time.
- Ability to initiate appropriate crisis intervention and emergency response.
- Ability to maintain working relationships and ability to work with diverse populations and cultures; ability to engage clients in a care plan.
- Ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams to improve patient outcomes.
Desired Qualifications: - BSN degree.
- Experience in a correctional or locked facility.
- 2 Years' experience preferred to include: hospital experience - ER/Psych/med surg; clinic ambulatory care and substance abuse.

- This position may be subject to up to ten (10) days of unpaid furlough leave in 2009.

- Public Health relies on office automation (Microsoft Office) and web-based enabled tools, therefore candidates must be proficient and comfortable with computer use to perform functions associated with on-going work.
- Regular and reliable attendance, effective communication skills, and development of effective working relationships are requirements of all Public Health positions.
- The person hired into this position will be required to adhere to the policies of the Department of Juvenile and Adult Detention (in addition to those of the Public Health Department) in meeting and maintaining the standards required for continued access to the facility as well as other standards related to conduct.
- Staff may be required to play an active role in the event of a public health emergency, which may include changes in responsibilities and working hours.
