This Juvenile Detention Health Clinic position is responsible for providing nursing services to detained youth that may have a wide variety of physical, mental health and behavioral problems.  Nurses work as part of a team consisting of mental health professionals, MD, ARNP, and nursing assistants.

Who may apply:  This career service position is open to all qualified applicants.  Internal consideration of 3% will be given to current King County career service employees.   

Work schedule:  This is a 40 hour week, overtime eligible position.  The current position opening is for a full time evening shift RN.  Schedule is 3 PM to 11 PM, Sunday through Thursday, with Fridays and Saturdays off. Facilities are operational 24 hours per day, seven days per week. Work schedules are subject to the staffing needs of the department and collective bargaining unit bidding process. Employees may be required to work other days/shifts and may be subject to mandatory overtime.

 Job Duties:

Primary RN duties include, but are not limited to: 
  

1.       Provide health assessments and triage, and mental health assessments when mental health professionals are not on site.

2.       Provide nursing care, including medication administration.

3.       Respond to health/mental health emergencies.

4.       Assist providers during examination and treatment of patients.

5.       Order pharmacy and other clinic supplies; maintain inventory.

6.       Participate in Quality Monitoring.

7.       Interact effectively with adolescent detainees.

8.       Collaborate with detention officers, probation officers, and outside providers in the interest of providing healthcare for detained youth.

9.       Contact parents/guardians of detained youth for consent for treatment and releases of information.

10.   Facilitate treatment for detained youth at community based health centers/hospitals when required.

 

 Experience, Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills:

Licensed as a Registered Nurse in the State of Washington prior to employment. One year minimum nursing experience in a medical setting. Demonstrated experience with nursing assessments and triage. Independent decision making is critical.
