Eligible lists may be used for temporary and permanent vacancies for the class of work during the life of the eligible list. Temporary appointments may lead to conversion to permanent employment.

Appointment may be made at any rate within the salary range (SR-28) at which appropriate qualified applicants can be recruited.

 Duties Summary:
Provides administrative, technical and responsible professional engineering direction over a variety of complex engineering programs and/or projects of a major engineering division; supervises the preparation of designs, plans, specifications, estimates and reports; and performs other related duties as described.

 Minimum Qualification Requirements:
Minimum Qualification Requirements for the Class:

Training and Experience: A combination of education and experience substantially equivalent to graduation from an accredited college or university with major work in civil engineering and two (2) years of civil engineering work experience as a registered professional engineer which shall have included responsibility for supervising civil engineering projects.

License Required: Possession of a certificate of registration as a professional engineer in the State of Hawaii.

Knowledge of: Civil engineering principles and practices; modern methods and practices used in the preparation of plans, specifications, estimates and reports; the source of engineering information, surveying and construction practices; public works programs and financing; land conveyancing and the preparation of contracts; principles and practice of administration.

Ability to: Plan, organize, and direct the work of a large number of engineering and technical employees; develop major engineering work programs; prepare and justify budget requests; prepare administrative as well as engineering reports and correspondence.

Persons seeking appointment to positions in this class must meet the health and physical condition standards deemed necessary and proper for the performance of the duties.

3. Evidence of registration as a professional engineer in the State of Hawaii.

Mail or drop off: Department of Personnel Services, 4444 Rice Street, Suite 140, Lihue, HI 96766 within 7 calendar days from filing this application. Office hours are Monday thru Friday (except holidays) from 7:45 am to 4:30 pm.

The examination will consist of a training and experience evaluation based on the applicant's education and experience as presented in the application.
