EXAMINATION IS ANNOUNCED TO ESTABLISH AN EMPLOYMENT LIST TO FILL CURRENT AND FUTURE VACANCIES AS THEY OCCUR. Selective certification for males has been approved for the current position as the individual hired will work with male juveniles in the Rivarde Detention Center. NOTE: All positions in this class are located in West Jefferson. Applications of those unwilling to work in West Jefferson will be rejected. |

| Work involves the custody of juvenile offenders being held in residential centers of the Juvenile Services and includes responsibility for the security of the facility and the physical safety of its occupants. Employee observes the behavior of, counsels with, and provides information about juveniles assigned; consults with other professional staff members who provide behavior, attitudinal, and functional information needed to effect behavior changes in juveniles. Work further involves interpersonal relationships with juveniles in educational, recreation and other growth or therapeutic activities. Incumbents receive professional supervision; however, IT MUST BE UNDERSTOOD THAT THEY ARE FREQUENTLY IN CHARGE OF ONE OR MORE OFFENDERS AND MUST BE ABLE TO PRESERVE ORDER AND DEAL WITH SEVERE DISCIPLINARY PROBLEMS IF REQUIRED. This necessitates physical agility and strength, as well as a controlled but firm manner in dealing with juveniles. Tours of duty are on a shift basis (day and/or night, may include weekends and holidays, and are subject to rotation. |

Minimum Qualifications For Admission to Examination:
|
Possession of an accredited high school diploma; plus, at least three (3) years of full-time, paid work experience involving children of school age (7-17 years of age); or one (1) year of college education (30 semester hours successfully completed) for each year of experience lacking. PROOF OF EDUCATION IS REQUIRED IN THE FORM OF A TRANSCRIPT OR DIPLOMA. Possession of a valid Louisiana driver's license* and an acceptable driving record are also required. *NOTE: A valid driver's license issued by a state other than Louisiana is acceptable for application; however, once an employment offers is extended, an applicant has ten (10) days to obtain a Louisiana driver's license. Failure to obtain a Louisiana license will disqualify an applicant for permanent employment in this position. ANY FELONY CONVICTION IS DISQUALIFYING UNLESS WRITTEN PROOF OF PARDON IS SUBMITTED IN TIME FOR CONSIDERATION WITH THE APPLICATION.
