Job Title: STATIONARY ENGINEER III (2039)

EXAMINATION IS ANNOUNCED TO SUPPLEMENT THE EMPLOYMENT LIST TO FILL ONE (1) CURRENT WEST JEFFERSON VACANCY IN THE DEPARTMENT OF GENERAL SERVICES AND FUTURE VACANCIES AS THEY OCCUR.

 Kind of Work:

Supervises the operation and maintenance of heat ventilating air conditioning (HVAC) systems, elevators, and fire protection systems of all public buildings under departmental jurisdiction. Employee supervises subordinate stationary engineers and A/C Heating Mechanic(s); responsible for maintenance of flues, pumps, screens, filters, strainers, pipes and other HVAC equipment; responsible for routine building maintenance and repairs throughout assigned buildings; records daily operations, temperatures and pressures log; completes preventative schedule on all HVAC systems and related duties as required. Shall be on-call 24 hours per day and shall be overtime exempt.

 Minimum Qualifications For Admission to Examination:

Current employment and permanent civil service status in the class of Stationary Engineer II or Air Conditioning/Heating Mechanic; OR at least five (5) years of engine room experience in the operation and maintenance of life safety equipment (emergency generators, fire alarm and suppression systems, etc.) and the following HVAC systems:
- Direct expansion/air cooled/water cooled air conditioning systems from 1/2 ton to over 20 tons.
- Water boiler systems for domestic and comfort heating.
- Computer operated HVAC control systems.
- Predictive and preventative maintenance of systems.

Applicant must possess a Universal EPA certification, a valid Louisiana Driver's license* and an acceptable driving record.

*NOTE: A valid driver's license issued by a state other than Louisiana is acceptable for application; however, once an employment offer is extended, an applicant has ten (10) days to obtain the required Louisiana license. Failure to obtain a Louisiana license will disqualify an applicant for permanent employment in this position.

 Kind of Examination:
(ENTRANCE AND PROMOTIONAL)

The examination may consist of a written test, a rating of training and experience, an oral panel interview or any combination thereof. If used, the rating of training and experience will be based on information on file with the Personnel Department. Therefore, applicants should furnish a complete and accurate detailed description of their work experience, the names and addresses of all previous employers, and the dates of employment. Acceptable applicants will be notified of the date, time, and location of any assembled test which may be used.
