DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Develop written procedures for all clinical operations, assuring the training and certification of all veterinary personnel. Develop a chain of custody process for ordering, receiving and dispensing all control substances at BARC; partnering with other management teams that have personnel that have access to control substances. Will be responsible for providing weekly controlled substance inventory balance reports to Bureau Chief. Assist with the development of a process for consumable ordering and dispensing of all non-controlled consumables required by the veterinary staff. Monitor entire veterinarian staff for compliance and assure that all personnel are following established procedures. Development of a tool to measure the number of animals who contact illness at BARC and develop a formal plan of techniques to be used to reduce these illnesses. Incumbent will also be responsible for providing technical and interpersonal skills coaching of all direct reports. Will be responsible for development of current and new staff members to improve their efficiencies in the areas of surgical techniques and procedures. Ensure all staff members have clear evaluation plans. Will be responsible for reports to Bureau Chief, (i.e. weekly spay/neuter results, weekly controlled substance balance reports, monthly contracted animal illness reports, etc.). Will work with Bureau Chief on a number of organization development projects.

WORKING CONDITIONS
Position is physically comfortable; the individual has discretion about walking, standing, etc. within an essentially normal office environment.

 MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
MINIMUM EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Requires a Doctoral degree in Veterinary Medicine.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Six years of experience as a Veterinarian are required.

MINIMUM LICENSE REQUIREMENTS
Valid driver’s license and compliance with the City of Houston policy on driving (AP 2-2).

Must be licensed by the Texas State Board of Veterinary Medicine. License must also include DPS and FDA controlled substance licensure.
