THE POSITION
Adult Corrections Facility
Probation Officer Assistant Intern
Hennepin County Department of Community Corrections
Adult Corrections Facility (ACF)
Commitment: Part-time unpaid volunteer, a minimum of 8-10 hours per week. Day and evening hours are available. Academic year commitment (minimum of 400 hours).
Job Location: West Metro -- Plymouth, MN.
School Majors: Social Work; Behavioral Sciences (psychology, sociology, etc.); Corrections; Criminal Justice; or related majors.
Deadline: Ongoing.

Objective:
Contribute to public safety by monitoring offender compliance with court ordered conditions.
Qualifications/Requirements:
Interns should possess a sincere interest in promoting offender change. Interns should have the ability to work with a diverse population and within a multidisciplinary team; excellent written and verbal communication skills; good interviewing and telephone skills; basic computer skills.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Work closely with Hennepin County Adult Corrections Facility Probation Officers and medical staff regarding the multiple issues facing incarcerated men and women. Facilitate executing court orders, payment of fines, treatment planning; verify jobs for Work Release; verify authorized medical and job seeking furloughs for residents; evaluate internal program participation; make collateral phone contacts to community resources; plan after care programming; assist medical staff with DNA swabs; keep accurate case notes and update files. Duties may vary upon assignment and unit placement.
Orientation/Training/Supervision:
General orientation to the Department of Community Corrections; orientation to standard operating procedures and safety standards of the ACF; on-the-job training to the assigned unit; on-going familiarization with program objectives and goals and the probation process; training in the use of computer programs relative to the assigned unit. Primary supervision is provided by Probation Officers, medical staff, and the Sr. Coordinator of Volunteers/Interns.
