The Hennepin County APEX Project Team has a need for two Report Developers. The Report Developers develop operational and analytical reporting solutions in a PeopleSoft 9 Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system environment. Peopletools 8.49, PeopleSoft Enterprise Performance Management (EPM) 9 and the Cognos 8.x BI suite are the reporting tools that will be used in this environment. These individuals will work with functional business and technical team members to assist with requirements, specifications, reviews, testing and support activities as needed. These individuals should have expertise with the PeopleSoft 9 and Cognos 8.x BI tool suites and a thorough understanding of their architecture.

The APEX Project is a countywide business process improvement and technology project designed to improve Hennepin County services and decision-making by replacing the county’s 20-year-old financial and human resources information systems and improving more than 80 business processes associated with these systems.

These positions are non-permanent, limited-duration lasting up to two years.

The primary duties of this position include:

  • Develop and maintain reporting solutions utilizing the PeopleSoft 9 and Cognos 8.x suites and other reporting tools that support the business information needs of the human resources, payroll, financial, procurement and other business functions using data from PeopleSoft 9, Cognos Budget & Planning 8.x and other business systems.
  • Team with business analysts, data architects and ETL data architects to design quality reporting solutions.
  • Plan, execute and coordinate the tasks required to develop, test and implement business reporting solutions independently with minimal direct supervision.
  • Develop related procedures and operating instructions.
  • Investigate, troubleshoot, perform root cause analysis and resolve problems.
  • Provide consulting support to business functional teams as needed.
  • Migrate reporting solutions between environments using standard change control processes and procedures and ensure quality assurance and required testing activities are performed.
  • The Ideal Candidate will have:
  • One of the following:
    • Four years of experience in technical systems or as a reporting developer within the last eight years.
    • A two year degree or approved certification in an IT program.
    • Bachelors degree or higher in Computer Science, Management Information Systems (MIS) or related field.
  • Two or more years experience developing business intelligence reporting solutions using Cognos 8.x including Cognos Report Studio, Query Studio, and Framework Manager.
  • Experience with Structured Query Language (SQL).
  • Experience delivering effective reporting solutions in a PeopleSoft 9.0 Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system environment, Peopletools 8.49, PeopleSoft Enterprise Performance Management (EPM) 9.0 and the Cognos 8.x suite.
  • Experience using human resources (HR) and financial data in a PeopleSoft 9 ERP environment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to organize, execute and deliver timely results on multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment with functional business and technical team members.
  • Ability to demonstrate the employee competencies.
