The Enterprise Architecture (EA) Division of Information Technology (IT) ensures a collaborative approach to system development by providing a common engagement model to all Hennepin County lines of business for working with all IT service teams. Through early engagement in a project, EA provides a collaborative review of systems architecture by all IT service teams to ensure a successful project delivery, using existing processes, infrastructure, and resources and using industry best practices.

This position focuses across more than one project at a time, while supporting individual project or solution architects on individual solutions. This activity will include validating that projects conform to the standard enterprise architecture framework and supporting solutions.


The duties and responsibilities for this position include:
  • Consult with application or infrastructure development projects to harmonize systems or infrastructure with the EA, and identify when it is necessary to modify the solution architecture to accommodate project needs
  • Understand and advocate the principles of business and IT strategies, as well as of EA development and service delivery
  • Lead the communication, marketing or educational activities needed to ensure EA success
  • Work with project teams to identify subject-matter expertise, and conceptualization and design of their architecture
  • Provide high-level guidance and direction on project review, architectural decisions and ensure new projects fit in with an overall strategic vision
  • Ensure that systems are built in a way that meet the functional and service requirements; performance, scalability, extensibility, etc.
  • Maintenance of the enterprise architect processes, pattern matching process, solution and application lifecycle processes


  • Ideal Candidates must have:
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in computer science or closely related field PLUS five or more years of progressively responsible experience in informational technology
  • Five or more years as an enterprise architect
  • Technical competence in enterprise architecture including: solution architecture, business architecture, technical architecture, application architecture and information architecture
  • Experience leading large complex initiatives at the enterprise level
  • Excellent communication and process/relationship/time-management skills
  • Ability to demonstrate the employee competencies
