Education Requirement: Graduation from high school or equivalent. Applicants must have had work experience of the kind and quality described below; or work experience requiring the ability to read, comprehend and apply procedures related to a records management system may be substituted for education on a year-for-year basis. Experience of a routine clerical nature is not qualifying. Experience Requirements: Except for the substitutions provided for in these specifications, applicants must have had the kind and quality of experience described and in the amounts indicated below. General Experience: Two (2) years of progressively responsible work experience which demonstrated knowledge of English grammar, spelling, arithmetic, common office appliances and equipment; the ability to read and understand oral and written instructions; and speak and write simply and directly. Specialized Experience: Two (2) years of progressively responsible records management work experience which demonstrated knowledge of a document management system; demonstrated knowledge of the preparation and processing of the imaging, retention, storage, preservation or destruction of records and documents; demonstrated knowledge of manual/automated retention/preservation processes; and demonstrated knowledge of archival records and information management principles. Insuring the quality control of the subordinate work units in the operations of a records management system. Supervisory Experience: One (1) year supervisory work experience which included: (1) planning and directing the work of others in the preparation and processing of the imagining, retention, storage, preservation or destruction of records and documents; (2) assigning and reviewing their work; (3) advising them on difficult problem areas; (4) timing and scheduling their work; and (5) training and developing new employees. Substitution of Education for General Experience: Graduation from an accredited university or college with a Bachelor’s degree may be substituted for all of the General Experience. Quality of Experience: Possession of the required number of years of experience will not in itself be accepted as proof of qualification for a position. The applicant’s overall experience must have been of such scope and responsibility as to conclusively demonstrate that he/she has the ability to perform the duties of the position for which he/she is being considered Selective Certification: Certain positions may require that certification and selection be restricted to eligibles who possess the pertinent specialized experience and knowledge required to perform the duties of the position. The connection between the kind of training or experience requested for selective certification and the duties and responsibilities of the position to be filled must be shown. Test: For competitive actions, all applicants must qualify on an appropriate examination for the class. For non-competitive actions, the examination may be waived.
