| Duties Summary: | |
| Plan, organize, coordinate and conduct assigned recreational activities in order to gain experience in planning and implementing recreational activities/programs within a corrections facility; help higher level staff conduct a wide variety of recreational activities; and perform other related duties as assigned. | |

| Applicants must meet all the requirements for the position they are seeking as of the date of the application, unless otherwise specified. Please note that unless specifically indicated, the required education and experience may not be gained concurrently. Your possession of the required amount of experience will not in itself be accepted as proof of qualification for the position. Overall paid or unpaid experience must be of such scope and responsibility as to conclusively demonstrate that you have the ability to perform the duties of the position. Note: Your calculation of experience must be based on full-time, 40-hour work weeks. Part-time experience must be pro-rated. Example: Twelve months of experience at 20 hours/week is equivalent to six months of experience, not one year. Also, hours worked in excess of 40 hours/week will not be credited. Example: Twelve months of experience at 60 hours/week is equivalent to one year of experience, not one and a half years.
To qualify, you must meet all of the following requirements: Education: A bachelor's degree in recreation, physical education, recreational therapy, leisure education, psychology, corrections, sociology, human development or other recreational or behavioral science field. Course work must have included a minimum of 12 semester credit hours in courses such as community recreation, physical fitness, abnormal psychology, counseling, behavior management, criminal justice, human personality and behavior. Excess professional work experience which provided an applicant with knowledge, skills and abilities comparable to those acquired after completion of a 4-year bachelor's degree curriculum as described above may be substituted for Education on a year-for-year basis, up to a maximum of four years. General Experience: Six months of progressively responsible professional work experience in an organized athletic/recreation program for groups of people, which included professional level experience in planning, organizing, coordinating and carrying out of such athletic/recreation programs. Substitution Allowed: A master’s degree in recreation, physical education, recreational therapy or leisure education may be substituted for all of the required General Experience.
