The Town of Greenwich is dedicated to the recruitment and selection of a diverse employment group, which is committed to providing quality, prompt and courteous service.

All candidates for employment in classified positions must successfully complete a testing process in order to ensure that they are qualified for the position. Candidates who successfully complete the testing process are placed on an eligible list that is forwarded to appointing authorities for consideration. The appointing authority may interview and select from any candidate whose name is on the eligible list subject to certain union preferences. Union represented positions are often filled pursuant to the terms of the collective bargaining agreements.

All candidates for unclassified, management positions are excluded from the formal merit testing policies.   They are, however, required to be reviewed and evaluated in accordance with Town recruitment policy.

Examinations may consist of written, oral, or performance tests or a rating of experience and training or any combination of these examinations. Certification to an eligibility list is the first step of a number of steps in the employment process.
