DIRECTOR OF PRODUCTION

with Plant Management experience in Utility Scale Conventional Steam Units and Combustion Turbines sought by Gainesville Regional Utilities to oversee our power plants.

 

GRU seeks a Director of Production to oversee our Deerhaven and Kelly Power Plants, along with our new South Energy Center. The selected candidate will direct all operational and maintenance requirements of the System’s generation assets.

 

You will be responsible for approving activities related to implementation of major repairs or improvement to plant facilities, insuring generating units and related facilities meet existing state and federal environmental requirements, and have responsibility for the safe and efficient operation of facilities.

 

Our ideal candidate will possess a bachelor’s degree in engineering from an accredited college or university and ten years progressively responsible experience in operation and maintenance of a high pressure steam electric generating plant, including three years experience as a Plant Manager.

 

While an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered, candidates must have experience with utility scale conventional steam units and combustion turbines.

 

Coal fired units, combined cycle units and BACT Air Quality control systems experience is preferred.

NATURE OF WORK

This is managerial work directing all operational and maintenance requirements of the system’s generation assets, or other facilities falling under the Energy Supply Department of Gainesville Regional Utilities.
CLASSIFICATION STANDARDS
The single position allocated to this classification reports to Assistant General Manager of Energy Supply and works under his or her general supervision. Work in this class is distinguished from higher classes by its lack of overall responsibility of Energy Supply and from lower classes by its managerial responsibility of all generating assets or other facilities within Energy Supply.
EXAMPLES OF WORK**
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Plans and directs operations and maintenance of the Energy Supply system’s generating stations or other facilities.
Directs formulation and implementation of production asset administrative, operating, and maintenance policies and procedures.
Reviews, evaluates, and administers activities related to implementing major repairs, alterations, additions, and improvements to plant facilities.
Reviews and implements programs to insure generating units and related facilities meet existing state and federal environmental laws, rules, and regulations. Coordinates environmental affairs with other departments, as necessary.
Implements and directs programs necessary to assure adequate policies and procedures are in effect for safe and efficient use of personnel and operation of facilities.
Evaluates and approves guidelines for development of professional and craft technical training and industrial safety training programs for power production personnel and assures effective program implementation and administration.
Directs activities to insure effective use and administration of contractual services.
Responsible for selection, promotion, discharge, and other appropriate personnel actions.
Accountable for the development of the annual O&M and capital budgets for the Energy Supply facilities.
Attends work on continuous and regular basis.
 
NON-ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Represents the electric utility through membership and participation in various state and national technical and professional organizations related to electric power production.
May act in absence of Assistant General Manager of Energy Supply.
Reviews administration of terms and conditions of labor agreements for all bargaining unit personnel within an assigned plant and coordinates recommended modifications to existing agreements for future negotiations.
May be responsible for enforcing the drug policy, based on physical location and organizational structure.
May be required to supervise employees designated as performing “safety sensitive” functions, for purposes of the Drug Free Workplace Program, depending on job assignment and work location.
Will be required to respond under emergency conditions.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Graduation from an accredited four year college or university with major course work in engineering or related subject, and ten years progressively responsible experience in operation and maintenance of a high pressure steam electric generating plant with utility scale conventional steam unit and combustion turbine experience required and coal fired unit, combined cycle unit and BACT Air Quality Control System experience preferred including three years experience as a Plant Manager, or any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and ability. .
LICENSES/CERTIFICATES
Valid Florida Driver License.
