Provide a wide range of recreational opportunities for youth in a fun, safe, and positive social environment. Depending on position, may develop and implement programs, provide direct leadership to youth, and be a positive role model. Ensure that activities are appropriate for the interests and development of youth. | Examples of Duties Performed - Duties may include but are not limited to the following: | |
| Plans and implements recreational programs for preschool, youth, and seniors. Assists Recreation Activity Leader with activities for youth. Organizes, directs, and leads activities. Works cooperatively with staff and parents. Is alert at all times for the safety of the participants. Conducts the program in a manner consistent with the policies of the Library, Recreation, and Cultural Services (LRCS) Department. May supervise children in a variety of settings under the guidance of the Recreation Activities Coordinator. May oversee recreation programs and act as site coordinator at specific program site. Implements effective discipline and safety measures when necessary. Keeps accurate records and completes all forms in a timely manner. Communicates daily with parents/guardians. Prepares daily snacks. Adheres to scheduled work hours. Attends required meetings and training. Keeps accurate records and completes forms in a timely manner; prepares monthly calendar and/or newsletters. Prepares, organizes, and cleans up activity sites. Supports and respects diversity in the workplace. Performs other related duties as assigned. |

| Qualifications: | |
| Knowledge of: Developmentally appropriate activities for youth. Ability to: Work well with others. Maintain order and safe conditions Identify hazards and implement solutions. Work well with minimal supervision. Work within the policies and guidelines set by City policy. Perform assigned tasks effectively. Recreation Leader Requires equivalent to one year of full-time experience leading recreational activities, performing child care, or related programs/activities. Recreation Activity Coordinator Requires two or more years experience leading recreational activities, performing child care, or related programs/activities. Some post-secondary education preferred in recreation, education, psychology, or related field preferred. License or Certificate The following are required at date of hire or ability to obtain within 30 days Current Community First Aid and Safety certification. Current Adult, Infant, and Child CPR certification. Current Food Handler's Card. Recognizing and Reporting Child Abuse class (Contact Lane Family Connections for information regarding classes.) A valid Oregon driver’s license or, the ability to obtain by date of hire; must pass driving records check and, if hired, maintain a driving record that meets the City’s standard. Oregon law requires that an out-of-state license holder must obtain a valid Oregon license (with appropriate endorsements) within 30 days of becoming domiciled in the state (ORS 803.355).
