Job Title: Fitness Instructor

Designs course outline and instructs fitness classes to adults of varied skill levels; delivers a safe, well-designed, and creative class.

HOURS
: Variable / Approximately 3-9 hours/week.

 Examples of Duties Performed - Duties may include but are not limited to the following:
Develops course outline for program to meet stated objectives.

Responsible for keeping accurate records, time sheets, and attendance.

Provides safety and implements solutions to hazards.

Attends orientation meetings.

May purchase supplies.

Responsible for room set-up and clean-up and maintaining order.

May be asked to promote activity.

May train volunteers as assistants.

Develops and maintains good public relations.

Supports and respects diversity in the workplace.

Follows procedures and policies as set by the City and Recreation Division.

 Qualifications:
Ability to:
Communicate well, both orally and in writing.

Work in cooperation with staff and the public.

Identify hazards, implement solutions, and maintain a safe environment.

Teach adults at all fitness levels.

Work within the guidelines set by the City and the department.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

License or Certifications
Current First Aid and CPR certificates.

Current nationally recognized fitness certification.

MUST PASS A CRIMINAL RECORDS CHECK.

Selection Process

Applicants are screened based upon their relevant knowledge, abilities, skills, experience, and training. The selection process varies according to the position and can include such things as screening of supplemental questionnaires, written or skill tests, ability or fitness tests, interviews, and assessment processes. In addition, background investigations and records checks may be required. Some positions also require applicants to have a psychological evaluation and/or physical examination and a drug test prior to employment. Applicants selected to continue in the process will be notified within two-three weeks after the posting deadline.
