Job Title: Emergency Medical Technician
Salary: $12.66 Hourly

The incumbent of this position performs medical screening and assessment as well as basic and emergency medical treatment to individuals that are brought to the County jail after arrest. Thie incumbent takes direction from the Registered Nurse In-Charge and follows medical orders from physicians and mid-level providers.

 Examples of Duties:
Performs intake assessments and recognition of serious illnesses and/or emergency conditions requiring transfer to an outside facility.

Provides on-site medical attention as indicated, i.e., wound care, etc.

Performs specific tasks including vital signs, venipuncture, and IV therapy (must have phlebotomy and IV certifications).

Provides appropriate interventions in emergency situations.

Ensures complete and accurate documentation of care provided in the inmate's health record.

Maintains health services records and logs and assists with data entry within the scope of EMT responsibilities.

Maintains accountability of all controlled substances and prescription medications according to federal and state laws and organizational regulations.

Participates in the monitoring, requisition, and documentation of the use of medical supplies and equipment.

Participates in inmate educational health programs.

Coordinates with medical, dental, mental health, and ancillary personnel, as required, to ensure continuity of care.

Participates in continuing education and in-service training to maintain professional capabilities and proficiency.

Assists in the training and orientation of new employees.

Follows all related federal, state, jail health care, Escambia County Sheriff's Office policies, regulations, and guidelines.

Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.

 Typical Qualifications:
Certification in Florida as an EMT. Correctional experience preferred. One year of experience as an EMT preferred.

Licenses and Certifications:
Current State of Florida EMT certification
Current Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification
Security clearance

All facets of patient care, infection control, safety, quality assurance, and institutional practices.
Federal, state, correctional health care standards, institutional policies and regulations and accreditation and certification requirements.
Recordkeeping practices.
Medical terminology.
Clinical operations and procedures.

Recognizing signs and symptoms of mental illness, emotional disturbance, and chemical dependency.

Exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Incumbents may be subjected to moving mechanical parts, electrical currents, vibrations, fumes, odors, dusts, gases, poor ventilation, blood and other bodily fluids.
