Job Title: Licensed Practical Nurse
Salary: $14.25 Hourly

The incumbent of this position provides general patient care and basic patient education. This incumbent takes direction from the Registered Nurse In-Charge, and follows medical orders from physicians and mid-level providers.

 Examples of Duties:
Follows all related federal, state, jail health care, and Escambia County Sheriff’s Office policies, regulations, and guidelines.

Participates in the screening, evaluation, and care of inmates in a variety of settings which includes sick call, mental health care, chronic illness clinics, the infirmary, and confinement while under the supervision of a physician and/or registered nurse.

Provides treatment and medication administration as per physician and mid-level practitioner orders.

Performs specific nursing tasks including vital signs, venipuncture, and IV therapy (must have phlebotomy and IV certifications).

Provides appropriate nursing interventions in emergency situations.

Responsible for complete and accurate documentation of care provided in the inmate’s health record.

Maintains health services records logs and assists with data entry within the scope of nursing related items.

Maintains accountability of all controlled substances and prescription medications according to federal and state laws and organizational regulations.

Participates in the monitoring, requisition, and documentation of the use of medical supplies and equipment.

Provides supervision for non-licensed health care staff.

Participates in inmate educational health programs.

Coordinates with medical, dental, mental health, and ancillary personnel, as required, to ensure continuity of care.

Participates in continuing education and in-service training to maintain professional capabilities and proficiency.

Assists in the training and orientation of new employees.

Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.

 Typical Qualifications:
Certification in Florida as an LPN. Correctional nursing experience preferred.

Licenses and Certifications:
Current State of Florida LPN license
Security clearance
Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)

Clinical operations and procedures.
All facets of professional nursing, patient care, infection control, safety, quality assurance, and institutional practices.
