This Safety Sensitive position requires Drug Testing.
This class performs continuous monitoring of radio, medical, and fire channels and dispatch request lines; takes calls and routes information as appropriate; and maintains activity logs.

 Examples of Duties:
Answers and processes medical, fire, and animal shelter emergency calls, which includes: verifying locations and phone numbers of callers; determining nature and severity of emergencies; providing pre-arrival instructions; determining the appropriateness of post-dispatch instructions; referring callers to appropriate supporting agencies; entering collected data into applicable database; assigning priority codes; and/or, performing other related activities.
Receiving and responding to non-emergency calls.
Processing non-emergency medical transfer requests, which includes: comparing and verifying patient’s condition against emergency criteria to ensure requests is to be processed as a non-emergency; comparing and verifying patient data with requesting agency; and/or, performing other related activities.
Performs a variety of administrative tasks in support of emergency communication operations, which may include: monitoring equipment status; coordinating road closure notifications; coordinating beach flag condition reports; entering a variety of data into applicable dispatch system; and/or, performing other related activities.
Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.

 Qualifications:
Training and Experience (positions in this class require):
High School Diploma or Equivalent (G.E.D.) and work experience as an emergency dispatcher, an EMT, a paramedic, a firefigher or a police officer; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.
Licensing Requirements (positions in this class require):

Physical Requirements:
Positions in this class require: reaching, standing, walking, fingering, grasping, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.
Light Work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. If the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for Sedentary Work and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated for Light Work.
