Education and Experience: A High School diploma or GED, and one (1) year of experience involving public contact. Must be a minimum of eighteen (18) years of age and meet all standards set forth by the Texas Commission on Fire Protection, and successfully complete a comprehensive background investigation including a pre-offer medical examination and drug screening. Licenses and Certificates: Certified by American Heart Association in Health Care Provider Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation by time of entry into the academy. Certification as an Emergency Medical Technician by the Texas Department of Health and as a firefighter by the Texas Commission on Fire Protection and upon completion of training. |

General Purpose:
|
Under immediate supervision, attend and complete classroom and field training in the fundamental principles of firefighting and those required of an emergency medical technician for certification as a firefighter/EMT. |

Typical Duties:
|
Attend and complete classroom and field training in the fire service. Involves: Attend classroom and skill-based training in fire department organization, rules, regulations, policies and procedures, fire hose practices, fire inspection, fire alarms and communication, arson detection, rescue operations, fire apparatus operation, building construction, aircraft and high-rise fire protection, emergency medical service, ethics, report writing and community relations. Participate daily in rigorous physical training including fire simulations and live fire training. |

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
|
- Application of some knowledge of customer service/public relations practices and procedures.
- Read and understand training materials, perform basic math, follow verbal and written instruction.
- Meet academy dress, appearance and discipline standards.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with instructors and other trainees.
- Clear, concise oral and written communication skills.

Other Job Characteristics:

- Participate daily in rigorous physical training.
- Successful completion of written, physical, and skills testing during the Academy session.
