IMPORTANT NOTICE:

All employment offers are contingent upon the job candidate successfully passing a background and reference check, post job offer physical (that may include pulmonary testing), and drug (including nicotine) screening.

Please note that beginning Wednesday, October 1, 2008, the ECUA began conducting post-job offer nicotine screening on all Non-ECUA job candidates.  Nicotine users will NOT be considered for employment.

 

Question:  If I don't smoke, chew tobacco, or use nicotine products at work, will I be eligible for hire?
 
Answer:  Anyone testing positive for nicotine would fail the nicotine screening and thus would not be eligible for employment with ECUA.
 
Question:  If I am a smoker and decide to quit, how long does it take to get out of my system?
 
Answer:  The amount of time it takes to "get out of your system" depends on many factors, such as how long you have been using nicotine products.  More information is available online and from your physician.
 
Question:  Why is ECUA testing for nicotine?
 
Answer:  Tobacco addiction is among the leading preventable causes of morbidity and mortality in the United States, and in the world.  According to the National Business Group on Health, employers save over $3,800 per year for each employee who quits smoking.  The Journal of Occupational and Environmental Medicines says smokers cost employers $4,430 per year in lost productivity.

Once you have completed your application online, please return to the ECUA website (www.ecua.org), click into "Careers",  then "Career Opportunities" and scroll down to the job title in which you are interested. Click on the job title, then the "Apply" button! Now, you can go back into your account and attach your application to the job posting.
It is important that your application shows ALL the education and experience you have, especially any that relates to the job you selected (including your current ECUA job title and job duties if you are a current employee). Incomplete applications may be rejected.

PRE-EMPLOYMENT AND BACKGROUND INVESTIGATION

If selected for hire, your previous employment and background will be investigated after a job offer is made. Be complete. Show on your application accurate previous employer history and every law violation (except minor traffic violations) for which you were ever convicted. If you do not remember your record, contact the appropriate law enforcement agency. Law violations are reviewed in relation to the job for which your are applying. PRE-EMPLOYMENT PHYSICAL

After you are offered a position, you will complete a pre-employment physical that includes nicotine and drug screening. This physical examination is paid for by ECUA; there is no cost to you.
