Job Title: Clerk Dispatcher

Employee in this position is responsible for receiving and registering complaints; typing incident/accident reports; dispatching patrol units and other duties as assigned.

Employee reports to the Uniformed Shift Commander.

 Essential Tasks:
The tasks listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional tasks related to the type of work of the class as necessary.

  • Answers emergency telephone calls and gathers information to be dispatched.

  • Answers general calls from the public and assists with information.

  • Dispatches emergency and non-emergency calls and maintains radio log.

  • Types incident and accident reports and transcribes reports prepared by officers in the field.

  • Enters and retrieves data on computer database; prepares news release for media.

  • Maintains case number files; processes traffic citations; transcribes detective interviews.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  •  Minimum Qualification:
    Must be a high school graduate or equivalent with two years of clerical and/or dispatching experience; or any related equivalent combination of education, training and experience which would provide the ability to perform the duties of the position. Must be a least 18 years of age, have pleasant telephone/radio voice and speak clearly and distinctly.

    Computer experience is preferred.

    NOTE: BEFORE APPOINTMENT APPLICANTS MUST PASS A 40 WPM TYPING TEST.
