Job Title: Detention Officer

The purpose of the class is to provide complete security throughout the jail facility. An employee in this position is responsible for performing a variety of detention duties relative to the control, safety, security, and supervision of inmates detained at the Dougherty County Jail Facility.

 Essential Tasks:
The tasks listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional tasks related to the type of work of the class as necessary.

  • Provides for the security of employees, the public and inmates within the jail facility.

  • Supervises inmates 24/7 to include during meals, kitchen work, intake process, labor activities and exercise.

  • Works twelve (12) hours shifts.

  •  Minimum Qualification:
    For this position, applicant must be:

  • At least 21 years of age
  • United States Citizen
  • Requires high school diploma or GED and jail certification of successful completion of Georgia POST Basic Jail Course within six (6) months of hire date.
  • Requires a valid Georgia's Driver's License
  • Able to clear background investigation
  • In proportion for height/weigh standards. (All height/weight standards will be adhered to by all uniformed jail personnel.)
