|
| The substance of positions in this classification requires the performance of low-skilled and unskilled strenuous labor duties may involve but not limited to operating tractors, mowers, and other lawn equipment; maintaining public facilities and trims landscape. |

Essential Functions:
|
| 1. Follows specific to general oral or written instructions on basic routines from an immediate supervisor or crew leader. 2. Completes several distinct tasks with little opportunity for decisions and supervisor frequently checks completed work. 3. Uses a variety of hand tools, power tools, landscaping equipment, and vehicles to transport equipment to job site. 4. Follows proper safety procedures; flags traffic, sets out barricades, cones, or other safety devices. 5. Loads and unloads tools, and equipment onto to trucks. 6. Performs preventive maintenance and minor repairs of all equipment. Performs Depending on Location: 1. Assists other crew members in the setting up and maintaining safety warning devices around job sites to protect the crew and the public; 2. Mows all large grass areas of assigned city property or private vacant lots; performs daily inspection and preventive maintenance and minor repair to tractor and lawn equipment; performs manual ground maintenance such as litter collection, tree trimming and other landscape tasks. 3. Operates small to moderately complex mowers, tractor drawn equipment, fertilizer spreaders, and curb dresser), forklift, Bobcat, slope mower, tractor, hedge trimmers, edgers, weed eater, blowers, and other specialized equipment to provide daily maintenance and landscaping to the city's public facilities; prepares and maintains horticulture beds and annual color plantings. Working Conditions & Hazards: - Requires extensive walking, carrying, dragging, holding, pulling, pushing, lifting, kneeling, bending, twisting body, walking, reaching, and squatting; may be required to lift up to 100 pounds. - Major activities are performed on level, slippery, sloping, unstable and uneven terrain. - Major activities are performed outdoors. - May be exposed to extreme cold, heat, heights, temperature swings, constant noise, mechanical and electrical hazards, fumes, odors, toxic chemicals (pesticides or herbicides), dust and mites. |

Minimum Qualifications:
|
| Must have at least an eighth-grade education and the ability to understand and follow specific oral and written instructions. At least one (1) year of general construction experience may be required. Depending on position, a Texas Class C or Class B (CDL) license may be required. Driver positions require certification under the City Driver's Safety Program within the first six (6) months of employment. Drug/alcohol testing and physical may be required. |

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

| - May require knowledge mechanics, landscaping, and specialized equipment. - Ability to follow specific or general oral and written instructions on basic routines from a supervisor or crew leader. - Ability to perform a variety of moderate to heavy physical labor for extended periods. - Ability to lift and work with heavy equipment. - May require knowledge of surface preparation/adaptability of various surface materials. - May require standard colors, configuration, and placement of lane markings and traffic signs. - May require State of Texas Class “A” or “B” or “C” CDL. - Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationship with other employees and the public.
