Recreation Leader I: $ 8.00 - 8.40 - 8.82 – 9.26 - 9.72 - 10.21 - 10.72 per hour
Recreation Leader II: $ 9.33 - 9.80 - 10.29 - 10.81 - 11.35 - 11.94 - 12.51 per hour
Recreation Leader III: $ 11.30 - 11.86 - 12.46 - 13.08 - 13.73 - 14.42 - 15.14 per hour

THE POSITION:


Recreation Leaders perform responsible work related to youth activities.

WORK SCHEDULE:
Recreation Leaders are part-time positions that typically work 20-30 hours per week. Depending on program assignments, work schedules may be seasonal and/or year round.

Note: Part-time employees are appointed by and serve at the will of the Department Director.   Employees do not contribute to the Social Security system; however, federal mandate requires new employees to contribute 1.45% of wages to Medicare and requires enrollment in an alternative retirement system.  The mandatory employment retirement contribution ranges from 3.75% to 10.52%.  As a condition of employment, all new employees are required to enroll and participate in the direct deposit program.

 Essential Functions:
Recreation Leader I: Assisting in supervising children during activities; organizing group activities and games; and leading arts and crafts and other projects.

Recreation Leader II: Assisting in coordinating and organizing a variety of recreational programs and activities; planning and leading the work of subordinate recreation staff along with: supervising children during activities; organizing group activities and games; and leading arts and crafts and other projects.

Recreation Leader III: Assisting in program planning, scheduling and record keeping; supervising and training Recreation Leaders I/II under the direction of a Recreation Leader IV.

Monitoring the daily checking in and out of children from programs and activities.

Positively interacting with parents, participants and the general public.

Enforcing rules and other related duties.

 Qualification Guidelines:
Recreation Leader I: 16 years of age or older; experience in volunteerism or participation in recreational activities desirable. Work permit may be required for current high school students.

Recreation Leader II: High school graduation or its equivalent; 18 years of age, or older, or enrolled in college; and one year experience working with individuals and groups in a recreational setting.

Recreation Leader III: High school graduation or its equivalent, and two years of college coursework in Child Development, Leisure Services, Recreation or related field; two years of experience in working with individuals and groups in a related recreational program area or service.

Ability to entertain and control children, have a positive attitude, be creative and imaginative.

Additional requirements:

A current (less than two years) tuberculosis clearance certificate by date of hire.

Possession of, or ability to obtain, first aid certificates may be required.

A valid California Driver’s License (Class B for some assignments) may be required. Revocation of license during employment may result in disciplinary action or reassignment.

Availability to work 20 - 30 hours per week: hours vary depending upon assignment.

Physical Tasks and Environmental Conditions:
Candidates must be able to walk/run with children while playing games and leading excursions, and lift heavy weights (e.g., a child). In addition, candidates must be able to work for extended periods in the outdoors, and be exposed to sun and varying temperatures.
