The Contra Costa County Health Services Department is recruiting individuals to fill vacant Mental Health Clinical Specialist positions. The individuals appointed to these positions may be assigned to such program components as inpatient psychiatric wards, outpatient mental health clinics, day treatment programs, crisis intervention, screening units, or a criminal justice mental health program. Mental Health Clinical Specialists provide psychotherapeutic intervention and treatment services to patients and/or clients and their families in an individual and group therapy environment. In addition, they prepare social case histories, refer patients or clients to appropriate community agencies, and perform specialized mental health services. Full-time, part-time and permanent intermittent (on-call) positions are available.

QUALIFIED SPANISH SPEAKING PERSONS ARE ENCOURAGED TO APPLY. A MONTHLY SALARY DIFFERENTIAL OF $100 IS PAID TO EMPLOYEES IN POSITIONS THAT REQUIRE BILINGUAL PROFICIENCY.

 Minimum Qualifications:
1. Possession of a valid California Motor Vehicles Operator’s License.
2. Possession of one of the following professional licenses is required: EITHER a) A valid license as a Clinical Social Worker issued by the State of California, Board of Behavioral Science Examiners; OR b) A valid license as a Marriage and Family Therapist issued by the State of California, Board of Behavioral Science Examiners; OR c) A valid license as a Psychologist issued by the State of California Board of
Medical Quality Assurance, Psychology Examining Committee.

Substitution for License:
EITHER
1. Possession of a Master’s Degree in psychology or closely related behavioral science field from an accredited college or university, and registration with the California Board of Behavioral Science Examiners as a Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT) intern or a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) intern.
OR
2. Possession of a Doctoral Degree in Psychology from an accredited college, university, or other educational institution accredited by the California State Board of Psychology. As a condition of continued employment, incumbents qualifying under this substitution pattern must complete the training and experience requirements necessary to obtain licensure as a Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT), a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), or as a Psychologist with the time periods prescribed by the governing bodies administering the issuance of these licenses.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS

Prior to employment, a background investigation will be conducted. Fingerprints will be taken.

2. Examination: The examination will consist of an evaluation of each candidate's relevant education, training and/or experience as presented on the application and the supplemental questionnaire. Candidates will receive a rating of 70 for meeting the minimum qualifications. Additional points will be awarded to those candidates who possess related education, training, and/or experience beyond the minimum qualifications. The names of candidates will be placed on an employment list in rank order for a period of six (6) months. Weighted 100%
