Contra Costa County Health Services Department is accepting applications on an ongoing basis to fill experienced level Laboratory Technician positions, which may be assigned to the Contra Costa Regional Medical Center in Martinez or Health Centers in Richmond or Pittsburg.

Laboratory Technician II is a journey level classification. With independence and proficiency, under supervision of licensed personnel employees in the classification perform a variety of duties such as collection and processing of specimens for hematology, chemistry, microbiology, urinalysis and coagulation testing.

 Minimum Qualifications:
License Required: Possession of a Valid California Motor Vehicle Operator's License.

Positions assigned to Clinical Laboratory or Clinic Specimen Collection sites require:
Certificate: Possession of a current, valid Phlebotomist Certificate issued by the State of California.
Experience: One (1) year of full-time (or its equivalent) experience drawing blood.

Positions Assigned to Public Health Laboratory require:
Education: A college level biology or chemistry course.
Experience: One year full-time (or its equivalent experience) in a public health clinical or environmental laboratry.

Other Requirements
Prior to employment, a background investigation will be conducted on all candidates. Fingerprints will be taken.

Examination: The examination will consist of an evaluation of each candidate’s relevant education, training and/or experience as presented on the application and supplemental questionnaire. Candidates will receive a rating of 70 for meeting the minimum qualifications. Additional points will be awarded to those candidates who possess related education, training, and/or experience beyond the minimum qualifications. The names of candidates will be placed on an employment list in rank order for a period of six (6) months.
