| The Contra Costa County Health Services Department is accepting applications on an ongoing basis to fill entry and experienced level positions in the Environmental Health Division. Positions may be located in the following areas of Land Development, Consumer Protection, Retail Foods, and Plan Check.
Working within one of the above program areas, Environmental Health Specialists perform environmental health inspections and investigations, secure compliance with applicable local and State health laws and regulations, and promote community interest in improvement of general environmental health. Contra Costa Health Services Department offers a wide range of desirable benefits such as 3 weeks paid vacation, an average of 13 paid holidays per year, full medical and dental benefits, retirement and a deferred compensation plan as a supplemental option. Applicants who are bilingual are encouraged to apply. Applicants successfully passing the County language fluency examination may receive an $100.00 monthly differential, depending on assignment. |

| License Required: Possession of a valid California Motor Vehicle Operator's license.
Education: Possession of a baccalaureate degree from an accreditated college or university with a major in an environmental health or science curriculum which meets the education requirements of the California State Department of Health Services for registration as an Environmental Health Specialist. Certificate Required: Possession of a valid certificate of registration as an Environmental Health Specialist issued by the State Department of Public Health. Other Requirements: Prior to employment, a background investigation will be conducted. Fingerprints will be taken. |

2. Examination: The examination will consist of an evaluation of each candidate's relevant education, training and/or experience as presented on the application and the supplemental questionnaire. Candidates will receive a rating of 70 for meeting the minimum qualifications. Additional points will be awarded to those candidates who possess related education, training, and/or experience beyond the minimum qualifications. The names of candidates will be placed on an employment list in rank order for a period of six (6) months. Weighted 100% The Human Resources Department may change the examination steps noted above in accordance with Personnel Management Regulations and accepted selection practices.
