The Contra Costa County Community Services Bureau has immediate openings for qualified classroom staff in a full-day childcare and education program serving approximately 2500 low-income infants and young children and their families throughout the County. Under supervision of a Site Supervisor, the Infant/Toddler Teacher leads a team of instructors to plan, organize and conduct a full range of developmentally appropriate activities for children 0-3 years of age enrolled in the Head Start and Child Development programs. These positions require the ability to establish a nurturing classroom environment that promotes the social, emotional, cognitive, creative, physical and linguistic development of infants, toddlers and young children in cooperative involvement with their families.

 Typical Tasks:
  • Plans and implements a developmentally appropriate and culturally sensitive program, meeting needs of all children and families according to appropriate State and Federal regulations, policies and procedures
  • Organizes and maintains a developmentally appropriate and culturally sensitive learning environment; ensures a healthy, safe, clean environment both inside and out of the facility
  • Provides nurturing routines such as diapering, dressing, and feeding infants and toddlers
  • Assists toddlers with toilet training and development of self help skills
  • Supervises sleeping infants and toddlers
  • Collaborates with parents as the child's first teachers in building a relationship of mutual respect and cooperation; conducts conferences, home visits and communicates verbally and in writing as required and as needed
  • Observes and records individual and group behavior and refers significant behaviors or concerns to specialists
  • Monitors and maintains all appropriate records, documents and files, submitting reports in a timely and accurate manner as required and following confidentiality guidelines
  • Uses required screening and portfolio assessment within required time frames and uses assessment to plan developmentally appropriate group and individualized activities
  • Implements appropriate behavior management techniques and follows policy
  • Models conflict resolution and problem solving for adults and children
  • Models and provides appropriate guidance and leadership to other instructional staff and children
  • Facilitates open, effective, and professional oral and written communication with families, staff and children
  • Maintains commitment to training and continuing professional development
  • Follows procedures for making verbal and written reports of suspected child abuse to Children's Protective Services and to others as required
  • Reports unusual incidents to Community Care Licensing and to supervisors as required
  • Complies with standards of conduct as required by Federal, State and County regulations
  • Performs other tasks as may be required for the efficient operation of the comprehensive, integrated program

 Minimum Qualifications:
License Required: Possession of a valid California Motor Vehicle Operator’s License. Out of state valid motor vehicle operator’s license will be accepted during the application process.

Education: Must possess three (3) ECE infant-related units. Preference will be given to candidate’s possessing and Associates of Arts Degree or higher from an accredited college or university with a major in Early Childhood Education, Child Development or a related field.

Permit Required: Must meet requirements for Child Development Teacher Permit issued by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing.

Other Requirements: As required by law, all appointees must pass a physical examination and have fingerprint and tuberculosis clearances. Beginning to intermediate proficiency with computer software operating in a Microsoft Windows environment is highly desirable.

Physical Requirements: Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. intermittently, able to bend, stoop, and sit in small chairs and on floors regularly. Invumbents must be able to move quickly to keep pace with young children.

Additionally, these applicants must submit a copy of their official or unofficial transcripts showing completed qualifying course work. 2. Application Evaluation: All accepted applicants will have their relevant education, training and work experience as presented on and with the application evaluated and scored. A minimum passing score of 70 points will be awarded for meeting all minimum qualifications. Additional points will be awarded for additional job-related qualifications. Applicants will be ranked on the eligible list according to the score assigned. Names will remain on the employment list for a period of six (6) months and, if not appointed during that time, you must reapply. (Weighted 100%)
